KHANA (Cambodia)

Providing essential support packages and vital welfare services for young key populations and young people living with HIV

KHANA is the largest national NGO working on HIV in Cambodia and focuses on ensuring equitable access to quality HIV and health services by supporting community ownership and advocating for empowerment through sustainable development opportunities.

The COVID-19 travel restrictions imposed by the Royal Government of Cambodia has put young key populations, and young people living with HIV at heightened risk as access to existing family and social support networks have been impeded. Loss of daily income has led to additional financial constraints. These economic challenges have triggered substantial socioeconomic insecurities related to food, shelter and utilities among young key populations and young people living with HIV, in addition to insufficient funds to purchase necessary protective hygiene products (e.g. face masks and alcohol sanitiser).

With the support of the YKP Emergency Relief Fund, KHANA distributed 250 essential hygiene and sanitation kits to young key population individuals across five provinces (Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng and Kampong Speu), in addition to providing urgent support packages to 30  young key population individuals in need of food, shelter and other welfare services.  KHANA has also been working alongside other partner organisations to ensure sexual and reproductive health needs of young key populations and young people living with HIV are met by providing transportation support, assistance with service fees and help with other related costs in accessing healthcare.
